JUFJ was proud to endorse Initiative 82, which eliminated the subminimum wage for waiters, bartenders, parking lot attendants, nail salon technicians, and others who rely on tips. But now, restaurant owners are trying to undermine the initiative with confusing junk fees to increase their own profits at the expense of workers’ tips. Consumers bear the brunt of the cost, and workers’ earnings are suffering. Join the Fair Price Fair Wage coalition on Zoom to learn more and take action.
Join the Edlavitch DCJCC and JUFJ for an evening of Purim fun and festivities – featuring Purim carnival games (budget ring toss, anyone?), a hilarious Purim spiel, and a special drag performance by Manny Nuff! So come nosh some hamantaschen and shake your gragger while learning how we can push councilmembers to prioritize housing and put people over profit.

Each spring, the Labor Seder celebrates the freedom story of the Exodus by connecting it to present day struggles, delivering the tools to take action, and celebrating with food, friends, and song. This year’s Seder, "Let all who are hungry come and eat," will examine how the fight for liberation is reflected in DC street vendors' campaign to be recognized as part of our city's vibrant and diverse community.

We're in the last leg of our DC Budget advocacy, and the Mayor and the Council still haven't fully funded key housing programs like housing vouchers and rental assistance. Join JUJFers to call DC Councilmembers to tell them to raise taxes on DC's wealthiest residents to fund these vital programs. We'll meet on Zoom on Tuesday, May 28 from 7-8pm to make the calls. A Zoom link will be sent ahead of the call.
Join the Economic Justice Team to celebrate Shavuot and build community through a deep dive into DC's tax system! Learn about inequities in our tax system and how we can fix them, and make friends with trivia and CHEESECAKE.

DC’s budget season has its ups and downs, but one thing is always true — the work that JUFJers and our partners have done to demand a moral budget is worth celebrating! Join us for a celebratory picnic to honor the work that we have all done together toward fair pay for early educators, housing for all, and a tax system that meets people’s needs. Families are welcome.
